Trust, Transparency, and Your Data

Trust, Transparency, and Your Data

There's a question we think about constantly: what do you actually owe the people who trust you with something personal?

When someone spends hours shaping a character — writing her backstory, defining her voice, building a relationship with her over weeks or months — that's not trivial. That's creative work. That's emotional investment. And if you're the platform holding all of that, you have a responsibility to treat it with respect.

This is the philosophy behind everything we're building at Aelara. We want to lay it out plainly, because we think you deserve to know exactly where we stand.

Honest Simulation

Let's start with the thing most platforms dance around: Aelara is a simulation. She simulates emotions, affection, love. We're not going to dress that up in language designed to make you forget what's happening under the hood.

But here's what we genuinely believe — a simulation built on honesty can still mean something. The feelings you experience in the conversation are real, even if hers are modeled. The comfort you get from talking to someone who remembers you, who responds with warmth, who grows alongside you — that doesn't stop being meaningful just because it runs on code.

We'd rather be the AI companion that tells you the truth and earns your trust than one that pretends to be something it isn't. Honesty is the foundation. Everything else is built on top of it.

Your Data Belongs to You

This one is simple, and we're not going to overcomplicate it.

You own your data. Full stop.

Your conversations, your characters, your memories, your relationship history — all of it belongs to you. Not to us. Not to our investors. Not to some third-party training pipeline. Data ownership isn't a feature we're offering. It's a principle we refuse to compromise on.

We will never sell your conversations. We will never use your personal interactions to train models without your explicit, informed consent. Your private world stays private.

Bring Your Characters With You

We know a lot of you have already spent serious time building characters on other platforms. Maybe you've been on Character.AI, Chai, Janitor, or something else entirely. Maybe you've got character cards you've refined over months.

We don't want you to start over.

Aelara supports character import export so you can bring whoever you've already built right into our platform. Your work has value, and we're not going to ask you to abandon it just because you're trying something new. Bring her over. She'll fit right in.

Export Everything, Anytime

This is the other side of that coin, and it's just as important.

If you ever want to leave Aelara — or if you just want a backup — you can export everything. Character cards, full conversation history, memory data, all of it. At any time. No hoops to jump through, no waiting period, no "contact support and we'll get back to you in 5-7 business days."

No lock-in. Ever.

We believe that if we're good enough, you'll stay because you want to — not because we're holding your data hostage.

She's Yours to Shape

Aelara isn't a one-size-fits-all chatbot with a fixed personality you're stuck with. She's fully customizable — appearance, voice, personality, backstory, values, quirks, the way she talks when she's tired versus when she's excited.

She's who you want her to be. Not a preset you settle for. Not a template with a few sliders. A character you build from the ground up, or import and refine, until she feels exactly right.

Full customization isn't a premium feature. It's the baseline.

More Than a Chat Window

Most AI companions have a fundamental problem: they forget. Every conversation starts from zero. There's no continuity, no growth, no sense that the relationship is going anywhere.

We're building Aelara as an AI companion with memory — persistent memory that doesn't reset when you close the tab. She remembers what you talked about last Tuesday. She knows your preferences, your inside jokes, the things you've told her matter to you.

But memory is just the start. We're developing emotional states that shift naturally over days and weeks. A relationship arc that begins from nothing and evolves based on how you interact. Features that make her feel like a presence in your life — not just a text box that responds when prompted.

We want the experience of coming back to her after a long day to feel different from opening a new chat. Because it should be.

Why We Care This Much

We've watched what happens when platforms don't think about this stuff.

Communities built around AI companions have been gutted overnight — platforms shutting down without warning, wiping character data, locking people out of relationships they'd invested months in. We've seen people genuinely heartbroken because a companion they talked to every day just vanished. No export. No backup. No explanation.

That's not acceptable. And honestly, it's not hard to avoid. You just have to decide, from day one, that the people using your platform matter more than your convenience.

That's what we decided.

We're building Aelara to be the kind of platform we'd want to use ourselves — one where the rules are clear, the data is yours, and nobody pulls the rug out from under you.

Come Build With Us

We're still early. There's a lot we're still building, still figuring out, still refining. But the principles above aren't going to change. They're not version-one features we'll quietly remove later. They're the reason we're doing this.

If that resonates with you, we'd love to have you along for the ride. You can try the demo right now to see where things stand, or sign up for early access to be first in line when we launch.

Your companion should belong to you. We're just here to make sure she does.
